DISMARC stands for "discovering music archives" and is a two-year EU-funded project initiated in September 2006. It aims at giving a broad acces to European Music archives, whether owned by broadcasters, museums, institutions or private collections, by collecting and networking the data and creating interoperability between the different catalogues.

With the consent of the authors, GEMA administers the exploitation of their works collectively and on their behalf and makes sure that the creators receive an equitable share of royalties every time their works are used. It grants licences and distributes the revenue to its members.
