Cuba
Soundtrip Cuba
released: 2008
Description
Latin American music is passionate music. But Cubans seem to want to crank up the heat to the boiling point. The Cuban variety of Son flaunts wild drum rolls and ecstatic brass sections - no Son can go without it. On the beach, in bars, Cubans sing together. For accompaniment they don't need more than one or two guitars and a pair of bongos. Everybody joins in, whether young or old. After all, tired legs can't stop you from singing.
Cuban music brims with contagious lust for life. Cuba might be a poor country, and its people have to get by on very little, but even so Cubans are proud: "Cuba te quiero", I love you, Cuba! sings the choir. And we all join in.
The soundtrip series is a cooperative project between Piranha Musik and Reise Know-How Publishers. An experienced, established leader in the field of travel guide publication, Reise Know-How approached us to assist them in putting together compilations to mirror the current musical landscape in various regions. The series, which will continue for years to come, begins with 10 beautifully packaged CDs introducing listeners to the aural atmospheres of Argentina, Australia, the Balkans, China, Finland, Japan, Cuba, North Africa, northeast Brazil and Switzerland. Available at bookshops in German-speaking countries, soundtrip CDs can be found in special display cases placed near the Reise Know-How travel guide series.
