Accordion, zither, tuba and a vast array of bells - these are the typical instruments of alpine folk music, mostly played in lively ¾ time and sung in Swiss German, French or Italian. Alpine instrumentation is so characteristic that songs still sound alpine even when they are actually based on country, pop, chanson or jazz. And of course there's "yodeln", the vocal gymnastics typical of the region. In Switzerland the yodelling tradition has been refined to virtuoso execution in several voices simultaneously. The tracks selected for this CD are musically ambitious, never kitschy, pushing the boundaries of "typical Swiss" far beyond the expected.

The soundtrip series is a cooperative project between Piranha Musik and Reise Know-How Publishers.
