Soundtrip The Balkans
released: 2008
Description
The Balkans are home to a great variety of peoples and cultures and its music reflects this diversity. Throughout history, different influences have been added to the potpourri that is today's culture of Bulgaria, Romania, Albania and the countries of Ex-Jugoslavia.
The Ottomans have left their mark as have Eastern European Jews, Romanian Cossacks, the Sinti and the Roma populations. So in the broad range of music on this Sountrip CD typical gypsy music with virtuosic guitar riffs and violin melodies stands next to melancholic ballads and raging brass sections that leave the unprepared listener breathless with their speed and volume. What is common to all is the pleasure in singing, dancing and making music together, an infectious joy that makes it tough to keep still when this soundtrip is playing.
The soundtrip series is a cooperative project between Piranha Musik and Reise Know-How Publishers. An experienced, established leader in the field of travel guide publication, Reise Know-How approached us to assist them in putting together compilations to mirror the current musical landscape in various regions. The series, which will continue for years to come, begins with 10 beautifully packaged CDs introducing listeners to the aural atmospheres of Argentina, Australia, the Balkans, China, Finland, Japan, Cuba, North Africa, northeast Brazil and Switzerland. Available at bookshops in German-speaking countries, soundtrip CDs can be found in special display cases placed near the Reise Know-How travel guide series.
