Lorraine has been a professional dancer since 1985. In 1996 she began focusing her energy more on teaching than performing and discovered her true calling, teaching movement. She absolutely loved it! She became increasingly more concerned with teaching proper body alignment and with the idea of healing through movement. She discovered Pilates in 2000 as she was being treated for a dance injury and was immediately impressed with its potential to heal, align and keep the body fit.
Lorraine first studied the New York style Pilates with Deja Griffith in Montreal. In 2002 she certified in Mat with Structural Studies Institute run by the Pilates instructor and Osteopath Rosemary Geist.
When searching for a Pilates teacher training program, it was very important for her to choose a comprehensive one that included all the Pilates equipment and also respected the original Pilates philophy of mind and body. With Core dynamics Pilates, a comprehensive teacher training program based in New Mexico, she found what she was looking for. Michele Larsson, the founder of Core Dynamics was trained by Eve Gentry who learned directly from Joseph Pilates. In 2003 Lorraine was fully certified to teach Pilates Mat work in addition to the Reformer, Chair, Cadillac and Spine Corrector. Lorraine continues to enhance her training with continuing Education with other Dance and Pilates instructors.
Lorraine recognises that there are different learning styles and believes in a multisensory approach to teaching. Visual, auditory, kinaesthetic learners and people that are a bit of all should be addressed. Lorraine wants to convey the joy of movement to her students, so she likes to her classes flowing so the clients move as much as possible and leave her classes feeling good.
As a dancer Lorraine has performed all over Europe, the Middle East and North America and is often invited to teach specialty dance classes in different cities across Europe and North America.
She produced 6 CDs of traditional dance music that have been highly acclaimed in the dance world.
Lorraine studied Cultural Anthropology and Comparative music and is still passionate about learning about music and dance in different cultures.
Lorraine is a member of the Pilates
Method Alliance.
