"We are trying to face the reality of a modern world in change and tension and reply to it with freedom and responsibility."
Darko Rundek

In the mid nineties, when Yugoslavia broke into pieces, Darko Rundek packed his bags and headed for Paris. As singer and lyricist of the legendary New Wave band "Haustor", he was a hero to his many fans. In Paris he had to start all over again.
From his new base in an outlying banlieu, he began writing music for theatre and over the next few years released two solo albums until during the making of a third album, "Ruke", the Cargo Orkestar was born.

What began as a gathering of old and new friends quickly developed into a formidable creative unit, with each participant bringing their own special skills. An international conglomeration making music of no fixed abode and carrying it across the borders in the hold of their imaginary rusty freighter: the Cargo Orkestar.

Music has shrunk from LP to CD and from MP3 and digital streams even back to LP. And in this spirit of downsizing and refining, Darko Rundek has stripped down his accompaniment from an orchestra to a trio, in harmony with spirit of the times. Unlike Cargo Orchestra, which uses Darko's songs as motifs for multi-faceted, baroque works, Cargo Trio uses his poetry to open space for suggestions, images, architecture, presence...and of course, to musicality in its purest form.

Press Quotes

"...you're unmistakably in the presence of a fascinating musical mind."
Sue Wilson, Sunday Herald

"I think if David Bowie had stumbled across some itinerant jazz band during his Berlin years - and absinthe had been his drug of choice rather than cocaine - he might have ended up making an album something like this."
Howard Male, Songlines

"Rundek makes angular melodies sound as sweet as lullabies. And vice versa. In these bland times he's a necessary character to have around."
John L Walters, The Guardian

"Beim Konzert von Darko Rundek glaubt man in Belgrad dabei gewesen zu sein. Die Fans singen die Textzeilen mit, die Stimmung ist grossartig".
Zeitungshaus Bauer, 23 October 2009
