"I've never gotten over the improbability that a group of musicians from Brooklyn, Harlem, and the Bronx reached such a high level of playing. It's as if the rumba spirit had transcended all geographic and political barriers and planted itself in New York. And took on a life of its own."
Eddie Bobe was born in the late 50's in Puerto Rico, to a Cuban father and a Puerto Rican mother, the beat of drums running through his blood from his first breath. A master percussionist, vocalist, composer, arranger and instructor in the Cuban, Haitian and Puerto Rican folklore traditions, he specializes in Cuban Rumba and Bata Drumming, Haitian Voodum, and Puerto Rican Bomba, Plena and Jibaro music.
For over 25 years Bobe has been an essential part of the Central Park Rumba scene where, every Sunday, Nuyoricans, Afro-Cubans and African-Americans gather in the park to play the Rumba. For his album "Central Park Rumba" he took a team of star names and young talent from the New York scene into the studio to capture the atmosphere of those celebratory Sunday sessions.
Eddie Bobe has performed and recorded with Eddie Palmieri, Paquito D'Rivera, Peter Erskin, Michele Rosewoman, Afro-Cuba Drum Ensemble, Art Pepper, Chico O'Farrill, Steve Coleman and many others.
