"Mali Blues" is a film by Lutz Gregor that illustrates Mali’s rich musical culture. Alongside Fatoumata Diawara – the young shooting star of the global pop scene – the movie makes us travel through breath-taking landscapes and discover Mali’s agitated heart from Bamako in the Southwest to the “Festival au Désert“ in northern Timbuktu.
Many other famous musicians featured in the film such as Bassekou Koyaté, Master Soumy, Rokia Koné or the young Tuaregband Tamikrest fear they will not be able to practice their passion of music in crisis-ridden Mali if Islamic fundamentalists take over.
All of these artists, they originate from different parts of the country, belong to different ethnic groups and represent different musical styles and traditions but have one common aim: Protecting Mali’s unique musical and cultural heritage.
"Mali Blues" will be premiered in Berlin on the 20th of September 2016 at Kant Kino. Short concert will follow together with Fatoumata Diawara, Ahmed Ag Kaedi and Master Soumy.
On the grounds of the "Mali Blues" film, another great concert will follow the same week, on the 24th of September, with Tuareg Desert Blues from Mali by Amanar de Kidal featuring Master Soumy and DJ Dany. For the venue address, click here.
