An original Arab soul punk - FAREWELL RACHID

Rachid Taha, original Arab soul punk. died at 59 in the night from the 11th to the 12th of September from a heart attack while sleeping.

He already joined our SOS-Racisme tour together with the 3 Mustaphas 3 and the Dissidenten under the Chernobyl disaster cloud in 1986 even before Piranha started, and became one of the early Piranha recording artists in 1988 with his ‘Carte de Séjour’ band.

A household name in France as a rebel with a cause, and never silent against all kind of social evils in France and dictators old & new on the other side of the Med. Always a secular man, lover of sex, drugs & Rockin' the Casbah he never stopped to move forward in all directions with his own music - punk, electronic and otherwise.

The art of deconstruction and reconstruction was another of his favourite games. His way to re-invent Charles Trenet's Douce France hymn, celebrating the virtues of the “real" France or re-making Dahmane El-Harrachi’s Ya Rayah song, an old Chaabi hit from Algeria, home country of his parents, a dancefloor killer for future generations are best theory & practise Rachid style.

Farewell and have a good journey.
