On the occasion of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela's 100th birthday, the Columbia Theater, Piranha and FuturAfrik invite you to a unique tribute concert on 20 July 2018!
Paul Simon’s legendary album “Graceland” made them famous overnight – in the meantime Ladysmith Black Mamabazo have won five Grammys and collected another 19 Grammy nominations while entertaining their worldwide public with their wonderful singing harmonies and impressive choreographies on the highest level since more than five decades.
On Madiba’s insistence, Ladysmith Black Mambazo accompanied him to Oslo for his Nobel Price Awarding ceremony and also sang at his presidential inauguration in 1994 – for Mandela’s 100th anniversary they will be singing live in Berlin!
“Fifty years on, Ladysmith Black Mambazo may be an institution, but it’s a vibrant, high-stepping institution that shows no signs of slowing down.”
As Special Guests we are happy to announce two South African Berliners:
Dear Reader’s intimate Indie-Pop is as free-spirited as it is intoxicating and bursting with affectionate joy of living. Her album “Rivonia” is a tribute to her native South Africa, to the anti-apartheid resistance and to the newly won and precarious freedom.
After-Show Party with DJ Floyd Lavine, Watergate Resident and global nomad!
