The hardest working Ethiopian in showbiz! Singing and playing in the scales of his native country, but also modelled after James Brown on one side, and the legends of Soul on the other, Alèmayèhu Eshèté was one of the voices of 1970s Ethiopian Jazz, Funk and Soul. For "Wassermusik X", the 1941 born singer is backed by Berlin drummer Max Weissenfeldt and his Polyversal Souls. Preceded by fashion show Kinshasa Collection at 19:00. Followed by film "Félicité" at 22:00

Where: Haus der Kulturen der Welt, John-Foster-Dulles-Allee 10

As a producer, he rose to superstar fame with U2's "Joshua Tree" and "Achtung, Baby" and with "Oh Mercy" and "Time out of Mind", the milestone albums that secured another comeback for Bob Dylan – and still another one. When he's not herding the untouchables, Daniel Lanois is also a performer in his own right and style. With intense Americana material sporting his trademark atmospheric swamp sound and detachment – and with a deepness and conviction rivalled by few

Remember last week's Retun of the HeimatKlänge? Here's another return – that of Berlin's first "Fête de la Musique" in 1995 with the headliner of its final concert, Khaled. Organised at the time by yours truly, Piranha Arts, the "Fête" was still only a truck and some guerilla concerts across town plus the final show at Tempodrom across Reichstag. Khaled was already a big domestic star and went on to become Raï's biggest international Superstar to date. Back almost to the same location for him at "Wassermusik X", too – as was the case with Oumou Sangare and her fabulous show last week. Support: Barmer Boys at 19:00. Followed by film "100% Arabica" at 22:00

It came complete with a chair lift right across Straße des 17. Juni – take a look. 60 years on, those days are gone – but the samples of international building exhibition "Interbau" in 1957 are still there. While Berlin is being compacted with one massive town house after another, get some insight into a different time and building philosophy with Bernd S. Meyer's guided tour "Hansaviertel, im Weltdorf der Architekturmoderne. Berlins Wohnschaufenster wird Sechzig. Die InterBau 1957 im Diskurs"

Where: Meeting point Hansaplatz / GRIPS Theater, Altonaer Straße 22, 10557 Berlin // When: 11:00

Tuesday 15 AUGUST
She is a singer, a writer, a poet. A photographer, a painter, a mystic. Even when she stumbles and falls in the middle of a song, it is to the utmost pleasure of Patti Smith's fans – as was the case with her performance for Bob Dylan at the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony. After her Apostel-Paulus-Kirche and Tempodrom gigs in 2014 and 2015, she's now back for another atmospheric Zitadelle open air. Special pre-show appearance by her band leader Lenny Kaye with a DJ set, spinning some of his favorite 45's from his vinyl vaults

Wednesday 16 AUGUST
Roy Ayers already had three successful decades in Jazz and neighboring genres to his credit, when he got discovered by the Hip-Hop generation and his career got off once more. He had delivered hits and "secret" hits in Jazz, Soul, R'n'B, Funk, even Disco both as a producer and as the player of some of the most elegant vibes in popular music, when through guesting with Guru's Jazzamataz and the like he became a key figure of Neo Soul and one of the most sampled musicians in rap on top. A barnstorming performer in his sixth decade - the legend of feel good Black Music!
