The core of Degas/Weiser consists of Brazilian bassist Jorge Degas and German composer and percussionist Andreas Weiser. The two met in Europe and formed not only a great friendship which has lasted more than twenty years, but also a beautiful musical partnership.
Jorge Degas worked his way up from humble beginnings to become a renowned virtuoso bass player. Born in in Rio de Janeiro in 1953, Jorge took naturally to music, teaching himself to play. Since 1970 he's worked as a professional musician with artists such as Al Di Meola, Bob Moses, Robertinho Silva, Paulo Moura, Martinho da Vila and Alceu Valenca in Brazil, Europe, Africa and South America. He's had periods of intense touring, playing at the Montreux Festival, Free Jazz and Rock in Rio in Rio de Janeiro, at major festivals in London, Paris, Copenhagen, Berlin, Nice, Nyon and Cascais and has recorded 13 albums. After settling down in Denmark in 1987, Jorge Degas has dedicated himself to developing his personal signature style.
Andreas Weiser studied history, German literature and philosophy at Berlin's Technical University and thereafter was active as a freelance journalist for various German radio broadcasters (WDR, SFB, NDR, HR, BR, RB, SWF and Deutschlandradio) as well as for for the newspaper "Die Tageszeitung" (TAZ). The travel bug bit, taking Weiser on several lengthy trips to Brazil. While there, he immersed himself in Brazilian music, authored countless radio features and made two documentary films on Brazilian themes, all the while developing his own style of polyrhythmic music, combining rock, jazz and improvisation. His efforts were acknowledged in a Journalist's Prize for Developmental Politics (Journalistenpreis Entwicklungspolitik) for his radio feature "Wie die Nacht den Tag verschluckt. Ueberleben in Rio de Janeiro". (Where the night kills the day, Surviving in Rio de Janeiro; WDR/NDR).

Press Quotes

"The music of Andreas weiser is neither ambient, ethnic music nor easy listening. It's like leafing through a photo album about an ongoing trip."
Anna-Bianca Krause from RBB (radio berlin brandenburg)

"I was awestruck with his bass playing... I have never heard anything like that before. (And I have been listening to bass guitarists most of my life...) I think Jorge is a gifted, one-of-a-kind player who's created a highly unique style on the bass guitar - one that is technically demanding yet exceptionally lyrical. To me his bass is extraordinary....."
Robert Kaye from the magazine "Bass Player"
