DakhaBrakha is world-music quartet from Kyiv, Ukraine. Reflecting fundamental elements of Ukrainian sound and soul, an «ethnic chaos» as they say, they have created a world of unexpected new music.
The band was formed in 2004 at the Kyiv Center of Contemporary Art «DAKH» by the avant-garde theatre director Vladyslav Troitskyi, and theater work has left its mark on the band performances. Their particular name means «give/take» in the old Ukrainian language. Having experimented with Ukrainian folk music, they have added rhythms of the surrounding world and aspire to open up the potential of Ukrainian melodies and to bring it to the hearts of the younger generation in Ukraine and the rest of the world. At the crossroads of Ukrainian folklore and theater their musical spectrum is intimate then riotous, plumbing the depths of contemporary roots and rhythms, inspiring «cultural and artistic liberation».
DakhaBrakha are coming in Berlin for a unique concert at May 30 at Festsaal Kreuzberg.
We are raffling some tickets - stay tuned!
