Mulatu is considered a pioneer of "Ethio-Jazz", a combination of classical jazz, Latin American influences and the traditional music of Ethiopia. He is a percussionist, clarinetist and vibraphonist and has been a talk of the jazz circles since the 1960s. Even today - at the age of 71 - is one of the most influential musicians in Africa.
