"I've traveled a lot and wherever I go I find traces of Fermin. Sometimes it was the name of one of his groups furiously graffitied on the wall, at other times it was an echo of rebellion from one of his songs and at others, just a pure roar. But, almost always, it was that multiple mark left by the music, by the ideology therein or even by the person who wrote it."
Bruno Galindo, Madrid, May 1999.

Fermin Muguruza was born in Irun, Spain in the early 60's. In the last 20 years he ruled the Basque music scene with his struggling rough songs, always sung in Euskara, the language of the Basque country.

In the 80's Muguruza combined the revolutionary mixture of the traditional Basque folk music with a raging punk sound, and blistering lyrics opposing the Spanish rule.
Muguruza was the lead vocalist for the bands "Negu Gorriak", "Kortatu" and "Dut" and between the three approximately 10 albums were released. Playing with many different musicians has not changed Muguruza's internalized message: he sings for a rebellious youth movement that uses music to vent it's protest. His grounds are evident: Muguruza experienced the last days of the Spanish dictatorship under Franco, witnessed the imprisonment of people simply for expressing their political convictions and the struggle of the Basque separatists with the Spanish government.

Today, Muguruza runs his own label, which released already his own two albums "Brigadistak Sound System" and "FM99.00 Dub Manifest" with guest singers from all over the world, among them his long-standing friend Mano Chao. His style changes from one album to the next. Muguruza's punk history still influences his music, yet with the creation of "FM 99.00 Dub Manifest". Fresh music styles like Dub, Hip Hop, Drum'n Bass, Reggae, Ska as well as the traditional Basque folk sounds were incorporated.
